The region
The Veneto wine region (and administrative region) occupies a large swathe of northeast Italy. The region boasts a number of quality (and quantity) wines including Soave, Prosecco, Ripasso, Valpolicella, Fior d’Arancio, Bardolino. It also includes a number of lesser-known labels.
In 2022, Veneto produced more than 15 million tons of grapes, with 27,513 active wineries and 101,165 hectares of vineyards.
Vineyards in Veneto consist almost entirely of DOC - Denominazione di origine Controllata (Controlled Designation of Origin), DOCG - Denominazione di Origine Controllata Garantita (Guaranteed Designation of Origin) and IGT - Indicazione Geografica Tipica (Typical geographic indication), the Italian certifications of quality given to wines with verified characteristics.
